The other day Sarah, (my 2 year old), came running down the hall from the direction of her brother Caleb's room, her mouth bulging. So I asked her, "Sarah, what IS in your mouth?" She smiled, opened her mouth and said,"Candy!" Well it turned out to be gum and not candy. But she thought that since it tasted good and was sweet it was candy. There have been times when it wasn't a good or sweet thing in her mouth and it could have hurt her very badly.
God has a lot to say about the things we say, "He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin." is just one of the many lessons that He hopes we learn. Have you ever heard the old expression, "they put their foot in their mouth?" Well that comes from NOT thinking about what you say and how you say it. Proverbs 12:18 says it this way, "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." We are called to help build others up. Yes, we need to be truthful in what we are saying, but we need to speak the truth in love. Another way to say it ," and a soft tongue can break a bone."
The way you say something matters just as much as what you say, your tone of voice, your body language as you are saying it, it all adds up in what you are saying.
With a little practice and thinking before hand pretty soon we all will have,"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver." Prov. 25:11
Wont that be a delicious treat to give?
My prayer today is that we all take the time to think before we speak.
Thanks for taking a moment of your time to be with me today.
Have a great ride and make it count!
