My little girl has this book, "The little engine that could". It's been around forever! Have you read it? It starts out with this train engine pulling all these different cars filled with all kinds of treats "for the good little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain". In the story a little train engine is no longer able to do her job because the load is just too much for her and she breaks down. How often in life we feel like we just can not go because of our heavy load.
As she stops all the toys climb down and start to complain but the little toy clown tries to encourage them by pointing out that another engine is coming that might help them. Let's face we all need a cheerleader once and a while. Well this engine is a big shiny one that carries passengers, it is too important to help such a little train as theirs, again we start to feel like we are just too insignificant for someone to help us People have a tendency to label others by the way someone or something looks.
Then a big heavy duty engine chugs up, maybe it will help us says the clown. But again it is too important to help because it pulls big equipment for big important jobs. Not taking the time to really look to see if we are able to help carry the load for some one else.
Then this old worn out engine comes along and well, his statement was, "I can not, I can not, I can not!" Do I really need to say more? Finally this little engine comes along and sees all the toys in distress so she stops and asks the all important question, "How can I help?" Even though she is small and not as big, or as important or as strong as the other engines she still stopped to help. With a positive "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!", she does and makes it over that mountain to get all the treats to the other side to the boys and girls waiting.
What is your attitude when it comes to helping others? Can we help others make it over their mountain?
"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....."
My prayer is that we all get and keep the "I can" attitude always.
Thanks for taking a moment of your time to be with me today.
Have a great ride and make it count.
